Well organized book shelves

When accessorizing bookshelves, remember to organize books by shape, color and type.  Vary vertical and horizontal placement and leave “white space” for accessory items such as decorative boxes, family photos or small paintings. Your shelves will add to your decor and avoid the tendency to appear cluttered.

"Raquel really tapped into my vision of what I wanted the baby's room to be. She created a space that is beautiful and functional, all within a budget and tight timeframe."

Interior Design Portfolio - Shirley’s Color Connection Project

The Challenge:

Dining Room Before Foyer Before
Chairs Before Kitchen Area Before

Shirley has lived in her beach-area home for the past twenty years and has decorated it with paintings, furniture and collectibles she loves.  The furnishings and accessories in her open floor plan, first floor space are full of warmth, texture and color. What Shirley felt was missing was a way to highlight and connect all the colors and items she loves from room to room.

Design Solution:

Window Treatment Renderings

Since Shirley wanted to keep the walls white, we came up with another way to help draw the eye to color throughout the space: with window treatments, new mattes and frames for existing wall art, toss pillows, a slipcover and a strategically-placed area rug in the front entryway. As inspiration for the dining room and living room window covering design, we pulled the color and flowing style from a figure’s dress in a much-loved dining room painting. That ginger-orange color became the connection between living room furniture and dining room accent colors.  Also, we created a custom table runner with fabric that speaks to the existing colors and leaf-life patterns in the space. Finally, to connect the blue-greens of the kitchen with the living room, we added a slipcover and toss pillows to the living room and placed a similarly-colored area rug in the foyer as introduction to the blue-green. New mattes and frames for the foyer artwork were added to introduce the ginger-orange

The Result: “Color-Connected, Visually-Appealing”
