Well organized book shelves

When accessorizing bookshelves, remember to organize books by shape, color and type.  Vary vertical and horizontal placement and leave “white space” for accessory items such as decorative boxes, family photos or small paintings. Your shelves will add to your decor and avoid the tendency to appear cluttered.

"Raquel really tapped into my vision of what I wanted the baby's room to be. She created a space that is beautiful and functional, all within a budget and tight timeframe."

Interior Design Portfolio - Madeline & Larry’s Basement Refinish

The Challenge:

Before
Basement Before Basement Before 2

Madeline and Larry recently updated the TV in their basement family room to a large, flat-screen TV. Their goal was to make the room more conducive for family gatherings – from watching movies, playing games and reading to a kids' play area, etc. With the dark 1970’s wall paneling and limited lighting in the space, the new TV put the exclamation point on the idea that it was time to update the room, too.

Design Solution:
We recommended Madeline and Larry remove the 70’s paneling and drop ceiling, add drywall, paint, remove the molding around the window (for more light) and add recessed general and accent lighting to the ceiling. For the color palette, based on Madeline’s love of gardening and her desire to lighten, brighten and make the space less “cave-like,” we chose a sea salt color for the walls reminiscent of sky with a hint of garden green. We designed the lighting plan based on the furniture layout and room function needs – to light reading and TV-watching areas adequately, as well as provide accent and ambience with a dimmer.

The Result: “From 70’s Dark & Heavy to Contemporary, Light & Airy”
